Plasma renin activity in marine teleosts and Cetacea.

Physiol. 2 13 (6) : 1582-l 584. 1967.-Renin activity was measured in the plasma of two species of tuna and one species of a euryhaline fish (Tilapia mossambica) which was adapted to fresh water for varying periods of time. In addition renin activities were also measured in five species of Cetacea. Renin was detectable in all animals. Plasma renin activity in the fish was highly variable but was not significantly altered by acute or chronic adaptation to fresh water despite marked changes in plasma sodium. Cetacea plasma renin activity showed little variability between animals and was similar to that reported for other mammals.
